Student Commons groundbreaking on March 9
Northwest Nazarene University invites the community to attend the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the new Student Commons on Friday, March 9 at 10 a.m. in the Brandt Center's Swayne Auditorium.
"For over 100 years, NNU has been a place of extraordinary community,” said Mark Wheeler, vice president for external relations. “This new facility provides intentional space for our students and the entire campus community to continue to live into our tradition of shared community. The dining and hang out spaces combined with our student life offices will be an ideal setting for students to live, learn, grow and welcome guests to campus."
Along with serving as NNU’s front door by welcoming visitors, this 48,000-square-foot building will be an intentional space for students to interact, live and learn together. This building will function as NNU’s dining room, where students and others gather to eat and share life together; the campus living room by providing a variety of flexible spaces for hanging out and planned activities; and a rec room by offering amenities like a game center, a TV/movie lounge and a bike and recreational rentals shop.
After nine months of public fundraising, NNU exceeded its $16.5 million goal for the Student Commons project this February. Thanks to the generosity of the global NNU community, these funds will cover the full cost of construction and do not include any federal, state or tuition dollars. Construction is expected to take 18 months with a projected move-in date of December 2019.
